GTA 6: 5 reasons who can make Grand Theft Auto VI be announced later this year

GTA 6 May be announced later this year

Even though the official release date of GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto VI) has not been revealed, many signs indicate that it may be released within a year or two. Thus, fans began to wonder if the long-awaited sequel will finally be announced this year. Regardless of when the next title comes out, such a gap between two consecutive Grand Theft Auto titles has never occurred.

That said, one has to remember that Rockstar Games is known for making highly detailed games that take a long time to develop. Fortunately, there are many reasons to expect an official announcement of GTA 6 in 2023.

Leaked marketing plans and 4 more reasons why GTA 6 may be announced this year

1) Grand Theft Auto Online 10th Anniversary Celebrations

GTA 6 May be announced later this year

GTA 5 and Online will mark its 10th anniversary later this year in September, after it was originally released in 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Given the success of the game, such an important milestone calls for celebration. While Rockstar hasn’t confirmed anything, they urged fans to stay tuned for upcoming celebrations in their recent Newswire post for the San Andreas Mercenaries DLC.

The interesting thing here is that Tez2, a well-known Rockstar insider, believes the event can be used to officially tease the next game. He also suspects that the summer update’s game files contain hints for the impending announcement of the sequel.

2) Leaked marketing plans

A letter containing GTA 6 marketing plans was leaked online last month. It was reportedly sent by Take-Two Interactive Software’s director of channel marketing, Paul Swiderski, to The Guild Downtown, a hotel in Miami. According to the letter, Take-Two wants to begin promotion for its next game later this summer by displaying a poster outside the hotel.

The developers choosing a Miami-based hotel makes sense, as Grand Theft Auto 6 is heavily speculated to take place in Vice City (the fictionalized version of Miami’s Rockstar).

3) Take-Two’s earnings conference call suggests a launch in 2025

Based on information received from Take-Two’s earnings conference call on May 17, 2023, fans can expect the next GTA game to be released around 2025. If that’s the case, Rockstar Games will likely announce Grand Theft Auto 6 this year. Developers like to announce new games at least two years before release.

This pattern can be dated to the reveal of Grand Theft Auto IV during E3 2006, followed by its eventual release in 2008. Thus, the chances of an announcement in 2023 are quite high, since the release date is 2024 or 2025.

4) Rockstar Games releases trailers two years before release

Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 show that Rockstar Games prefers to show the first trailer two years before the game’s release. Both games were released in 2013 and 2018, with their trailers dropping in 2011 and 2016, respectively.

While there is no confirmation, we can expect developers to employ a familiar approach. Therefore, if the release date of GTA 6 is really 2025, fans can expect the first trailer of the game or at least an official announcement any time this year.

5) Leaks did not affect development

Rockstar Games suffered an unprecedented network hack in September 2022. As a result, more than 90 videos of GTA 6 development footage have been leaked online. Although fans were initially skeptical, Rockstar confirmed that the videos were real on Twitter. Addressing the subject, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explained how the unfortunate event emotionally impacted the game’s developers.

That said, the GTA 6 leaks haven’t affected the business in any way, and the development process seems to be on the right track. So if the 2024-2025 release date is legitimate, eventually there will be an official announcement this year.
