Baylife RP is a French-language server and one of the largest on FiveM by raw headcount. On a recent check the tracker gtaboom logged 1,306 players against 2,040 slots, with a 1,845 daily peak and a 1,587 daily average. That is a town, not a cast. It runs on ESX, confirmed twice over: the FiveM listing carries an "esx" tag, and a resource scan turns up ESX and ox_lib among roughly 281 resources. gtaboom files the playstyle as economy-focused. The FiveM pitch is "Roleplay avec contenu exclusif", and the site titles itself the best GTA 5 RP server. Both are the server's own marketing, not a measured result. What you actually get is a busy French-speaking Los Santos with a public wiki carrying a ten-chapter rulebook plus directories of legal businesses, public services and illegal factions. If your French is not comfortable, stop reading. All of it, rules included, is in French.
/ Getting in
Open. The official wiki's connection page gives one instruction: press F8, type `connect https://gta.bay.life`. No application form, no interview, no whitelist appears there or in any of the ten rule chapters. There is one gate worth knowing before you queue. Your Discord account must be linked to FiveM and you must be in the Baylife Discord. Fail either and the server refuses you with a `Bay_identity: Deferring connection` error. That is an identity check, not vetting. No minimum age is published anywhere we looked, which is not the same as saying there is none.
/ The rulebook is the product
Ten chapters, public on wiki.bay.life, and specific in a way that tells you what nights here look like. Street robbery is capped at $1,500 per victim, and you take the weapon or the money, not both (4.02). Scams carry the same $1,500 ceiling (4.07). Hit the same laboratory twice and you wait 14 days (4.12). Offroad convoys stop at 12 people across two cars and two bikes (4.17). Willing players cannot pose as fake hostages (4.06). Fear RP, pain RP, powergaming and metagaming off streams each have their own numbered rule. This is a ruleset that has been argued into precision.
/ Dying costs you everything
Death RP means permanently losing the character and their memories (9.01). You do not respawn out of a story. Executions require an approved death RP file first: video, written evidence and photos, submitted as a Google Doc through a staff ticket and cleared before anyone pulls a trigger (9.02, 9.03). Approval means a total character reset (9.04). A judicially imposed life sentence counts as death RP (9.05), as does a death pronounced by EMS (9.07). Refuse to roleplay a serious medical scene and it is applied automatically (9.08). Consequence here is administrative, and it bites.

Concurrency is the headline, though gtaboom also showed a 4.7% dip over the preceding week, so it is not only going up. The Discord invite API returned 85,672 members and 7,034 online in July 2026, which is large even for a French RP community. The wiki's "La vie à San Andreas" book maintains live directories of businesses, public services and illegal factions, so you can read the city's org chart before loading in. Police conduct is codified too, with tasers preferred over firearms and fleeing vehicles disabled rather than shot at. Naming is enforced on both sides: a roleplay first name and surname, in game and on Discord.

Enough to matter. No founding date is asserted here. The Discord guild dates to 2020, but a guild creation date is not a server launch, and the third-party page claiming a precise launch date would not load. No owner or staff name could be confirmed; the wiki exposes a maintainer handle only. No streamer could be confirmed as a regular. bay.life itself sits behind a Cloudflare challenge, so every official claim above comes from the wiki instead. A French review site and at least one YouTube video accuse Baylife of pay-to-win monetisation via a paid subscription. That review page returned 403 and could not be read, so treat it as unverified opinion, not a finding.
