Getting in takes more than pressing connect, and it is 18+. Here is this server's actual route in.

Their process

Discord whitelist (not open). The server's own hostname reads "RETRO ROLEPLAY | 🎯Filmreifes Roleplay🎯 | 🔥Discord WL🔥 | 🔞18+!" (verified live via dynamic.json), and the running resource list includes Badger_Discord_API, the standard resource used to gate FiveM access on Discord roles, so access is granted by holding the correct role in the Discord guild, not by a forum application. Route: join discord.gg/retrorp (vanity invite, guild "Retro Roleplay 🔥"), then clear the Discord entry gate, the guild has MEMBER_VERIFICATION_GATE_ENABLED, GUILD_ONBOARDING and AGE_VERIFICATION_LARGE_GUILD enabled with verification_level 2, per the Discord invite API. Age gate: 18+, stated in the hostname, on the site ("Ab +18 Jahren 🔞") and in the Discord guild description ("Filmreifes Roleplay ab 18 Jahren"). Separately, rule §4.1 of the Regelwerk requires your character to be at least 18. Not verified: whether a written application (Bewerbung), interview/Erstgespräch, or vouch system exists behind the Discord gate, the public Regelwerk contains no application, interview or vouch requirement, and the actual whitelist channels are only visible to members inside the Discord. A "Discord WL" in the German FiveM scene usually means a low-friction role/onboarding gate rather than a juried application, but that inference is not confirmed for this server. A separate appeals Discord exists for unbans ("Retro Roleplay | Entbannung", 1,906 members).

Key facts · researched

ESX18+ (stated in server hostname, on the official site, and in the Discord guild description; Regelwerk §4.1 additionally requires the character to be 18+)27,562 members / 2,701 online (Discord invite API, live). Operator's own /api/stats reported 27,561 total, 1,824 online, 115 team members at the same time. A separate unban/appeals Discord has 1,906 members. Discord
  • Discord-whitelisted, 18+ only - enforced in-server via Badger_Discord_API role gating (verified in the live resource list)
  • ESX Legacy framework, confirmed via the server's own gametype field, not inferred - 308 resources loaded, 2048 slots, OneSync enabled, game build 3095, txAdmin 8.0.1
  • Cinematic-roleplay positioning: strict IC/OOC separation, zero-tolerance rules on racism and misogyny/misandry, and a player obligation to self-record escalations, shared information, kills and escapes
  • SaltyChat voice (saltychat / rc_saltynui resources) plus a TeamSpeak requirement (retro-ts) listed as a prerequisite for new players
  • Heavy customization claimed by the operator: 'Custom Framework Integration', 'Custom Kleidungen und Mappings', '99% Selfmade' (self-reported); third-party rcore/gabz content also present (rcore_casino, rcore_tattoos, rcore_golf, cfx-gabz-paletobank)
  • Dedicated streamer infrastructure: a 'Creator & Streamer Programm', a streamer-only in-game faction (Roxwood Rangers, which is protected - no items may be taken from its members), and a full streamer rules chapter mandating a 60-second stream delay and permanent bans for stream-snipers
  • State/legal factions per the Regelwerk: LSMD, LSPD, BCSD (Sheriff), Roxwood Rangers, IAA, FIB, DoJ, Army, State Administration
  • Faction/job-based naming convention required in FiveM (e.g. 'Zivi x Max Mustermann', 'Ballas x Max Mustermann'); troll names and real-celebrity names are banned
  • Monetized via a Tebex store (retrorp.tebex.io) selling gift vouchers and cosmetics; runs a custom queue resource (rr_queue)
  • Rapid growth per the operator's own timeline: 150 concurrent (April 2025), 275 concurrent (27 July 2025), 700+ (autumn 2025), 1,000+ (10 February 2026) - self-reported
  • Leadership publicly listed on the site's team page: Picassoo (Projektleitung / User Experience), Julian (Serverleitung, Projektleitung Entwicklung), Luxas (Stv. Projektleitung, Fahrzeugentwicklung); 115 team members total
  • Official site is on a .ch domain (retro-roleplay.ch) despite being a German-language DACH server; retrorp.cc redirects straight to cfx.re/join/drg8mj

In-depth reviewA German ESX server with a long, unusually specific rulebook and a Discord gate, whose marketing describes a considerably bigger place than its live player counter does.Read

RETRO ROLEPLAY is a German-language FiveM server running ESX Legacy on 2,048 slots, selling itself as "Filmreifes Roleplay ab 18": cinematic roleplay, adults only. It is the kind of server whose rulebook is longer than most servers' entire websites, and that is rather the point. It wants slow, deliberate, in-character scenes, and it has written down in unusual detail what that means. The gap worth knowing before anything else is between what the server says about itself and what the trackers show. The site advertises a community of over 2,500 active players and a milestone of more than 1,000 concurrent on 10 February 2026. On the day this review was checked, the server's own live counter read 105 of 2,048, and the independent tracker FiveStats read 127. Both are accurate statements. Only one of them describes your evening.

/ The pitch, and the numbers

Retro's self-description escalates depending on where you read it. The website claims "über 2500 aktiven Spielern" and "Deutschlands erste Wahl für Roleplay". The Discord description claims "über 1.000 aktiven Spielern" and second-largest RP server in Germany. None of it is sourced, and the two figures contradict each other. What can be checked: on 14 July 2026 FiveStats had it at 127 of 2,048 and ranked around #270, while the operator's own stats endpoint returned 105 at the same moment. A tracker snapshot from April logged a 261 daily peak, but that listing is months stale. Plan for one to two hundred people.

/ Getting in

Access is gated, not open. The hostname advertises "Discord WL", and the research found the standard Discord role-gating resource running on the server, so entry comes from holding a role in the guild rather than connecting directly. Join discord.gg/retrorp, clear the membership screening and onboarding, and pass the 18+ gate. What could not be verified is what sits behind that gate. The public Regelwerk contains no written application, no interview and no vouch requirement, and the whitelist channels are visible only to members. Expect a gate, but do not assume a juried application. Check the Discord.

/ What the rules ask of you

The Regelwerk is where Retro gets concrete. Your FiveM name must match your job ("Zivi x Max Mustermann", "Ballas x Max Mustermann"). You are obliged to record your own escalations, kills, escapes and information handovers, because that becomes your evidence in support. Shooting needs a shot call over voice, or five seconds of visibly aiming a weapon. It stays valid fifteen minutes, and the other side gets at least five seconds to react. Illegal work in public places is banned under a "Millionenstadtprinzip". Terror, shooting sprees, sexual violence, suicide, serious illness and pregnancy storylines are all off the table.

/ Streaming and the small print

There is a Creator & Streamer Programm and a full streaming chapter. Some is standard: moderate your chat, cover your map, run a delay, and stream snipers get permanent bans. Some deserves a second read. Streamers may not accuse anyone of cheating on stream, may not discuss support cases or old bans, and may not join talk formats that criticise the server, live or afterwards. The team also reserves the right to drop a streamer with no rule violation at all. The server's own live-streams endpoint was empty on both checks, so no individual creators could be confirmed.

/ Money

Retro sells coins and features through a Tebex store, and the store states plainly that everything is voluntary and nobody is disadvantaged for not buying. The rulebook complicates that slightly. VIP tiers grant extra properties (Gold +1, Platin +2, Diamant +3), and a paid coin slot unlocks a third job where everyone else is capped at two. There is also a paid character transfer if you reset your PC without filing a ticket first. All payments are final, and opening a chargeback or PayPal dispute earns a permanent ban.

"Hier geht es nicht darum, wer gewinnt oder verliert." The philosophy page means it, and the rulebook actually enforces it.

The verdict

Come for a German 18+ server whose rules were written by people who clearly thought about them, and stay if a couple of hundred players reads as a city rather than a letdown. Skip it if the 1,000-player headline is what sold you, if you want to be in-game tonight, or if you need a scene you can argue about publicly afterwards.
